Jim reciprocates the gesture only once Hunter makes the first move, subconsciously testing the waters to make sure they're okay. Yeah, Hunter said that everything is fine between them, but Jim needs to reassure himself that it was sincere, not just something said to calm down a panicking friend.

"I'm sorry you had to deal with my baggage on such short notice, but I'm kind of glad it was you. I'm pretty sure I don't have to get you to sign a nondisclosure agreement, right?"
